IAM Committees are the place where most of the primary activity of the Institute is planned, organised and delivered (primary being those things that the Institute exists to do, as opposed to those that it has to do because it exists). The Committees have just been restructured - and the Terms of Reference are being updated - so this list is not comprehensive. (The other Committees currently are: Knowledge; Peer Review; Qualifications & Professional Development.)
We encourage Members to engage with one or more of these Committees and/or their activities. It is possible to contribute without needing to attend large numbers of meetings or commit to unmanageable time or workloads. Please contact the Office or Chief Executive if you would like to get involved.
Events Committee
Is established to ensure that an attractive and high-quality programme of events is generated in good time to promote attendance by IAM Members and others and to make Membership of the IAM an attractive proposition. A secondary role of Events Committee is to plan and recommend to Board which external events should be endorsed by the IAM and what preferential terms should be agreed for IAM Members.
Membership Committee
Is established to ensure that the IAM maintains a continuous focus on the needs of and services to all categories of existing members, in particular, competence matters in the context of professional development. It is the body which receives and processes membership applications (and transfers between grades). A secondary role of Membership Committee is to recommend changes to categories & criteria for membership, rates of subscriptions and proposals for member benefits.
Publications Committee
Is established to ensure that a coherent, authoritative and attractive suite of AM / technical publications is produced, for the benefit both of the membership and more widely, which in a cost-effective manner both enhances the reputation and influence of the IAM and increases awareness and understanding of Asset Management.
Recruitment & Publicity Committee
Is established to ensure that the IAM plans and executes an energetic and focused programme of recruitment and promotion, both direct and indirect. This includes design of directly related printed material and promotional items, direct contact with and approaches to potential Corporate and Individual Members, liaison with organisers and manning / arranging stands at events. A secondary role of P&R Committee is to propose and draft press releases and also to recommend improvements the profile of the IAM, including how to achieve better publicity for its events, activities and products - with a view to furthering the IAM’s aspirations for influence.
The Asset Management Network
This is not an IAM Committee as such. However, the Chair of the Executive Committee of the Joint Network (one of the Technical and Professional Networks of the IET) attends Council on the same basis as Committee Chairmen to ensure a close link is maintained between the IET and IAM.
