What can Asset Management Do for Your Business? A Network Rail Case Study
19 May 2010
About this event
The management of physical assets throughout their lifecycle plays a key role in determining the operational performance and profitability of industries that operate assets as part of their core business. Asset Management is now emerging as a professional discipline in its own right and deals with the optimisation of physical assets by applying a cross-discipline approach to achieve the best net sustained value-for-money throughout the asset lifecycle.
This presentation aims to cover some of the principles of asset management, the aims and objectives of the Institute of Asset Management, its links to the IET and their relevance to those already employed in related industries. The background of the BSI Publicly Available Specification for the optimised management of physical assets (PAS 55) will be explained together with benefits (and disbenefits) of compliance and explore issues "beyond PAS55 compliance" and the work on the ISO Project 4.
The speaker will then draw from his own experiences of implementation of Asset Management within Network Rail, a regulated industry, the challenges faced along the way, the benefits delivered to date and some of the remaining frustrations. There will be ample time for audience questions and discussion.
