Not sure if this is the correct forum but here goes...

I am currently studying for an MSc in Operations Management in Engineering and have selected Asset Management for my final project.

I also work full-time in the field of process improvement (e.g. change) and over the years I have observed some frailties within the asset management processes I have been exposed to e.g. assets not registered but in use, assets used but not maintained, assets not being tracked, multiple IT systems in use with asset information in the one organisation, lack of communication between departments, etc

I am aware of the asset management system as detailed in PAS 55-1:2008 and was wondering if there are any other models that I could review for my disertation. Most of the literature I have reviewed so far points to financial management and efficient maintenance and I agree they are large important parts of the process but I feel there is more to it than this. I feel a robust asset management process is reliant on the interaction between people, processes (robust) and IT systems especially when moving from an acquisition phase to the utilisation phase. There seems to me to be a distinct cross over point (for me anyway) that needs to be well planned, co-ordinated and managed. Does anyone agree as I have failed to find much academic literature on this and could you point me in the direction of any relevant material?

All input would be greatly appreciated.

Regards

Paul Donaghy

P.S. My background is in manufacturing and not finance. My role is to make tasks easier for people (and save money) so I am possibly coming from a different perspective to an asset manager focussed on the financial gain.
