Annual Conference 2017 Sets Out Exciting Future for the IAM

The IAM Annual Conference 2017 was held on 24-26 June 2017, at the Hilton Deansgate, Manchester, UK. The Conference focused on three key themes of Global Urbanisation and Innovation, Business Strategy, Investment and Resilience, and Good Practice and the Future of Asset Management.

The three-day event attracted delegates from 25 different countries and received excellent feedback.

Highlights from keynote speakers include Dr Lamonte explaining how better transport contributes measurably to health, social wellbeing and the economy (not just transport), Duncan Symonds giving us the investor’s view of asset management and David Wright using the 6-box model to describe the true value asset management has brought

The 2017 Conference served as the launch of the IAM’s Charter Project - the Institute's journey to gain a Royal Charter and become a Chartered Institute. This exciting project and significant commitment to the asset management discipline is supported by four Lead Sponsors: ABB, Accenture, IBM and National Grid. The IAM is extremely grateful to these organisations for their support.

The Conference’s keynote address was delivered by Lord Andrew Adonis, Chair of the National Infrastructure Commission. Lord Adonis talked about the relevance and significance of asset management across different sectors, with a particular focus on the education sector. He expressed his support for the Institute's Charter Project and the benefits to society it would bring.

Further key highlights from the IAM’s annual flagship event included the welcoming of the new President of the IAM, Chris Newsome OBE. Outgoing President, Richard Edwards, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Society for Maintenance and Reliability Professionals (SMRP). This memorandum is a member benefit sharing agreement between SMRP and the IAM.
