Background and Structure of the Framework

The Framework was first published in 2006. This version replaces that one and is the product of extensive consultations with early adopters of the 1st Framework, individual and corporate members of the IAM, educators, trainers and other stakeholders.

The structure and format of the 2008 Framework follows the requirements of the UK Qualifications Regulators and also reflects lessons learned from best practice competence management systems in the safety critical industries.

The structure of the Framework contains:

  • A Key Purpose Statement for Asset Managers.
  • The Key Roles needed to achieve this purpose.
  • The Units (main areas) of Competence needed to deliver these roles.
  • The Elements of Competence which define the specific requirements which individuals should be able to meet.

The Competence Framework is available to download free from this website.  (this will be available soon)
