The professional body for whole life management of physical assets

IAM: The Institute of Asset Management
May 2011

Richard Edwards and I have been enjoying a very stimulating and successful visit to the annual ICOMS Conference (organised by the Australian AMC) - on the Gold Coast this year.

The other reason for the visit was a meeting of the Global Forum (GFMAM).  This is also making good progress and we can bring you up to date at the Members Conference next month (see below).

My only regret about the Australian trip is that it prevented me attending CNAM 2011 last week, the 5th annual workshop of the Canadian Network of Asset Managers.  We are excited about collaborating with this leading public sector association and look forward to working together ever more closely.

Some Canadian IAM Members have already booked places at our own Members Conference next month - and we look forward to renewing these friendships.  We also value this evidence of the increasing profile of asset management in Canada and the USA and the hard work of CNAM and others in bringing this about, not least through active participation in PC251.

Members Conference 2011

Spaces for the IAM Annual Members Conference are being booked fast.  Avoid disappointment and BOOK NOW.

The theme of this years conference is 'Innovation' - an outline programme for our 2-day Members Conference on 20/21 June is now available on our website.

We are delighted with the high quality of speakers and the good mix of technical, financial and business subjects and with Jonathan Goring, Chief Executive of Capita Symonds as our keynote speaker.

Also for the first time, we are to hold a Poster session that will give members, academia and IAM Projects the opportunity to show case their activities and engage directly with delegates.

This is followed by an optional Competence & Qualifications Workshop on 22nd. The Workshop will focus on Asset Management Leadership and structuring roles and responsibilities in organisations.  Also included - emerging Qualifications and how to get involved - and progress with the International Accord.  Why not book this as well?

No doubt the drinks reception and dinner on 20th - all included! - will be as popular as ever.

We are pleased to announce that Squadron Leader Andy Green from the Bloodhound Project will be our Dinner Speaker this year.  The primary objective of the Bloodhound Project is to inspire the next generation to pursue careers in science, engineering, technology and maths - by demonstrating how they can be harnessed to achieve the seemingly impossible, such as the Bloodhound 1,000mph land-speed record.  Andy Green is the driver for the land-speed record attempt, whilst his day job is a Fighter Pilot in the Royal Air Force!

You won't meet a more interesting or influential group of senior asset managers in a relaxed social setting anywhere else!  The same high quality accommodation is available and, once again, we are delighted that we already have bookings from Canada, China, Africa, Australia and USA.

Quals Seminar 26th May

There is just enough time to apply for a place at the Seminar next week. Attendance is free, kindly hosted by Osborne Clark, but by invitation.
Email Tim Feest, IAM CPD Projects Manager to book your place.

The seminar is in central London on 26 May (10:30-13:00) to review our plans for the launch of two new professional qualifications for asset management - the IAM Certificate and the IAM Diploma.

Findings from the recent questionnaire survey will be presented and delegates will be invited to contribute to plans for finalising the designs of the awards, development of training and assessment requirements and launch dates.
