IAM North West Branch Meeting - Nov 2017

9 November 2017
Haweswater Conference Centre, Lingley Mere Business Park, Lingley Mere Green, Great Sankey, Warrington, WA5 3LP

We would like to invite you to the next in our programme of IAM NW Branch events.  We are privileged to host three large asset owner organisations who will share their experience of developing asset management capability in the areas of asset management decision making, operational improvement and risk management.

Date:  9th November 2017

Time: 16:00-18:00

Location:  Haweswater Conference Centre, Lingley Mere Business Park, Lingley Mere Green, Great Sankey, Warrington, WA5 3LP

The event will feature a series of three short talks from the organisations below:

Network Rail

Decisions that determine the performance and cost of the railway infrastructure and how we can make them better

The presentation will step through the major decisions that Network Rail takes in moving from a whole infrastructure strategy to the execution of work on the ground and the operation of the network. These decisions have been improved by the adoption of a formal asset management approach but further improvements will rely more on innovations in technology and analytics.

DHL Supply Chain

Effective use of scale and expertise to drive value in road asset operation and compliance

This presentation will share DHL Supply Chain’s road asset management approach, and how it has developed significantly over the last 5 years to overcome the challenges of a large and often siloed organisation. The session will discuss how a centralised approach brings improved operational and cost control, enhanced management information (to improve future decision making capabilities) and increased value to DHL’s customers, whilst generating additional time for operators to focus on delivering best in class operations and services.

United Utilities

Operational risk – back to basics

Understanding operational risk is a challenge most large organisations face when managing, operating and investing in a large aging asset portfolio. Many organisations use a method of cost benefit analysis to manage their assets and prioritise investment; others employ a range of activities from proactive maintenance to fix-on-fail, sometimes targeting these different approaches for different asset groups. Fewer organisations are managing and investing in assets based on operational risk.  Here we explain how at United Utilities we are developing a more granular understanding of risk that maintains an objective, evidence based appraisal of our control measures.

There will also be time for Q & A with the speakers and networking with peers from across the North West.
