Across 25, 26 and 27 June, delegates gathered at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole UK for the 2018 IAM Annual Conference. Each day focused on one of three key themes: Growth, Innovation & Transformation, and Resilience.
With attendees coming from all corners of the world, this was, as always, a truly global event with fantastic opportunities to hear from and interact with leading professionals bringing together asset management insight across many different sectors.
This year, we welcomed new industries and businesses to the programme, including national mapping agency Ordnance Survey, car manufacturer Jaguar Land Rover, building science centre BRE, The Coventry Building Society, and the Canadian city of Brampton - to name a few.
An underlying topic across many of the sessions was data and technology: the increasing importance of the digital world and the power of technology to improve processes, performance and decision-making as forward-thinking companies look to the future.
- Keynote Speakers
Brian McBride (Chairman of ASOS, Wiggle, previous CEO of Amazon UK) centred around the need to adapt to succeed - how companies must be data-driven and offer a personalised experience to connect with audiences in his engaging presentation, "Evolve or die".
Will Whitehorn (previously President of Virgin Galactic) focused on the ability of innovation and strong brand identity to cause disruption in the economy in his keynote, "Innovation, Disruption, Brands and Entrepreneurs".
- The launch of the IAM Foundation Award
The Foundation Award, formally launched at the conference, is a one-day awareness training for individuals requiring a basic knowledge of the discipline to support their organisation’s asset management activities. Sam Quinlan from the IAM presented a session introducing this new introductory training.
- Chapter and Branch representation
We were delighted to welcome a number of members of IAM Chapters and Branches
around the world, including Canada, Germany, Ireland, the Netherlands and the UK, who enjoyed the opportunity to engage with members in other countries.
Peter Dourlein of the Netherlands Chapter and Simon Cain of the UK Chapter North East Branch delivered a session on setting up Chapters and Branches; a reflection of the increasing importance and demand of local and regional groups for asset management professionals.
- Enjoying the views
On the evening of Day 1, delegates enjoyed a scenic rooftop barbecue in the sunshine on the Discovery Terrace, Library of Birmingham.
- Photo Gallery
A vibrant and animated event, it was great to see delegates, speakers and exhibitors from all over the world interacting, learning, and enjoying themselves across the three-day conference.
