The IAM Knowledge Centre is a dynamic social media environment for users to contribute and share knowledge on asset management, including the latest thinking and emerging concepts.
It is intended to be viewed as an unfinished product with members contributing freely any information which will help to add value, compliment content already provided and grow the Knowledge Centres entirity.
This Centre is hosted on the same software as Wikipedia and so anyone familiar with using or editing this will be able to get going straight away.

What is Asset Management?
Asset Management is the management of (primarily) physical assets (their selection, maintenance, inspection and renewal) plays a key role in determining the operational performance and profitability of industries that operate assets as part of their core business. Additional categories of assets covered by the scope of this discipline include: information, finance, competence and other intangibles insofar as they relate to asset management decisions.
Asset Management is the art and science of making the right decisions and optimising these processes. A common objective is to minimise the whole life cost of assets but there may be other critical factors such as risk or business continuity to be considered objectively in this decision making.
This emerging professional discipline deals with the optimal management of physical asset systems and their life cycles. It represents a cross-disciplinary collaboration to achieve best net, sustained value-for-money in the selection, design/ acquisition, operations, maintenance and renewal/ disposal of physical infrastructure and equipment.
The PAS55 standard, sponsored by the IAM, defines the requirements for such an integrated approach.

Initial contributions have been important to making the Knowledge Centre informative from day one. Organisations that contribute proprietary material are identified on the relevant pages by their logos. Obviously this recognition will be gradually overtaken as material is edited and improved by subsequent contributions.
Please add your own content, case studies and guidance notes for the benefit of other members. We are happy to identify proprietary material (whether downloads or pages) with your logo on the same basis as the initial contributions.
