Name: Brian Thomas Haldane Addison

Organization: SSEN Transmission

Location: United Kingdom

Candidate Statement:

As a representative of Asset-owning organizations for the last 35 years I have benefited greatly from the knowledge & guidance provided by the leaders/mentors I’ve worked with, as well as through my association with the IAM.

Over the last 8 years, I have used that knowledge to lead the strategic transformation of SSEN Transmission from an immature organization to one that is now sought out by others for best practice sharing.

In that same period, I’ve become much more involved in the operational activities of the IAM and have been successful in achieving both AMP and FIAM status – all of which I prize greatly.

I believe that all the above experiences, plus my desire to serve, will enable me to be an effective representative on the IAM Board for all IAM members and I would very much value the opportunity to help shape the strategic direction of the Institution.

Service to the IAM:

My involvement with the IAM and its associated projects includes the following activities.

  • Being the IAM & International team lead on the GFMAM Landscape review project for Section 7 – Value Generation
  • Peer reviewer of SSGs
  • Judging the IAM Excellence awards for several years
  • I have written multiple articles for the IAM Assets magazine
  • Presenter at IAM UK Chapter & Global conferences

Name: Dr Christian Roberts FIAM, AMP

Organization: KPMG

Location: United States of America

Candidate Statement:

As a passionate asset management professional, I have long believed in the mission of the Institute of Asset Management as a learned society dedicated to advancing excellence in our field. Throughout my career, and particularly during my time with the IAM, I have sought to contribute meaningfully to its growth, stability, and global influence — and I now seek the opportunity to continue that service as a member of the Board.

I bring a rich history of involvement in the IAM, including my previous service as President of the Institute, where I worked closely with colleagues worldwide to strengthen our position both operationally and financially. Under my presidency, the IAM moved to a more stable and resilient financial footing, enabling us to make key investments that will shape the Institute’s future. Earlier, I also contributed as Editor of Assets, Chair of the US Chapter, and a member of the Knowledge Leadership Group, helping to shape and share vital thought leadership within our profession.

As a Fellow of the Institute and a Registered Asset Management Professional (AMP), I remain deeply committed to advancing the IAM’s role as the leading voice of our discipline. My focus as a Board member would be threefold:

  1. Strengthening governance within the Institute to ensure continued transparency, accountability, and long-term strategic alignment;
  2. Supporting international growth by building on the IAM’s global reach and deepening engagement with emerging chapters;
  3. Enhancing our knowledge base to ensure we remain at the forefront of thought leadership and professional development.

I have always seen my time with the IAM not just as service, but as an investment — one that delivers real value to our members, our organizations, and the communities we serve. I would be honored to contribute once again at the Board level to help guide the IAM through its next chapter.

Name: Nicola Walsh

Organization: Network Rail

Location: United Kingdom

Candidate Statement:

I am passionate about the benefits of Asset Management and promoting this across the industry.  I have been committed to the IAM for over ten years and through my involvement with Patrons, Faculty and the Digital Asset Management Steering Group, have seen the great value that can be gained from sharing knowledge. I am keen to promote knowledge creation and sharing and want to push cross industry collaboration and integrated System Planning. Finding collaborative opportunities that benefit all particularly in demonstrating where value aligns across organisations is one of my passions. To enable this, I want to promote the right approach to digital asset management and creating the correct foundations to make it sustainable and suitable for legacy assets as well as new. As a Board member I would be enthusiastic, committed and creative in helping the IAM to thrive, creating useful and timely knowledge for its members.

Service to the IAM:

I was an active member of the IAM Patrons group for 7 years representing initially Northumbrian Water and latterly Network Rail. For the last four years I chaired the Patrons forums through Covid ensuring continuity and engaging topics. I present regularly at the IAM annual global and UK conference on many aspects of Asset Management including climate change, digital asset management and value in decision making. I supported the IAM through numerous working groups including the submission for chartership and the review of the competency framework. I sit on faculty and council and am a strong advocate for knowledge creation. I chair the Digital Asset Management Steering Group since its inception supporting the workstreams and trying to link in volunteers and connect the group to potential learning and case studies. As a board member I have supported the IAM to grow and develop a unique offering to its members. I sit on the Finance committee and we have a strong ethos in investing back into the IAM for its future.

I actively promote the IAM to colleagues within my organisation and promote the work they do, learning on how we can use it to drive improvements across infrastructure businesses. I encourage others to get involved as volunteers.

Name: Joseph Chi-Wai Wong

Organization: WSP

Location: Rest of the World

Candidate Statement

I am a major campaigner of asset management, and I am dedicated to excellence in this field. My sphere of influence stretches as far as Southeast Asia and Pacific, where I am the project director for major asset condition surveys and advisory in Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore. As WSP’s representative for Asset Management in Asia, I have spearheaded WSP’s efforts in delivering asset management work for more than a decade. The Asian market is both intricate and complex to navigate, where my work entails consulting on asset condition assessments/life extensions/renewals for key clients such as MTR (HK), LTA (Singapore) and MRTC (Malaysia), each of whom are the main transport bodies and the biggest energy user and infrastructure asset owners in their respective countries.

Ageing assets are becoming an increasingly important issue in these regions, and I would like to be at the forefront of representing HK and/or China for IAM in delivering Asset Management solutions

Service to the IAM:

I am currently a member of the registered IAM endorsed assessor through our WSP UK office as well as an IAM diploma holder. For the past 2 years, I have been an IAM council member. Although there is no IAM representative in Hong Kong, I have presented asset management papers at a joint IET/IAM conference in 2014 and in 2024. I have utilized and marketed guidelines and methods from IAM publications to assess and advise clients regarding ways in managing assets for their railways, and conversely also contributed my own expertise to IAM Assets Magazine (Jan 2025).

My contributions are mainly through advisory and asset condition work in Asia, where one of my leading involvements was re-registering Hong Kong (as an observer region) and myself to TC/251, the ISO committee responsible for the ISO 5500x series of standards. In the past few years, I have also had regular review meetings with Tom Goodyer (recently nominated by BSi to be the Chair-Elect of TC/251) about the ways of extending asset management work methods on various types of assets (particularly on infrastructure assets and focused on railways)

Though my asset management leadership in WSP, I have encouraged young members from other Asian offices to develop into competent asset managers with the requisite IAM certs and diplomas, and I am committed to further developing this initiative in the coming years through better connection with the IAM if re-elected.

Voting is open to all fully paid-up voting members of the IAM until 23:59 BST on Wednesday 3 September 2025.
