September 20, 2023 from 12- 12:45 PM ET - Online Webinar Register Here

This webinar will provide an introduction to what the circular economy is, what asset management can do to enable the circular economy and how to think about value streams and the deployment of systems theory to create additional value from assets.

We will be joined by Carl Waring who was the lead author of an IAM whitepaper on this topic. Bring your questions as there will be time following the presentation for Q&A with Carl.

Asset Management as an Enabler for the Circular Economy

The IAM has been busy developing its capability so its principles and practices can be adapted and applied to work effectively in the future Circular Economy. The future competitive economic horizon will be about how much regenerative impact organisations can create, going beyond profit.

The IAM published its first white paper on the Circular Economy back in November 2022 and supported a follow-on applied research paper sponsored by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) and Frazer-Nash Consultancy in the UK which looks at developing circular economy principles and practices across the UK Rail Sector. This second paper deploys asset management concepts and principles to create circular economic value and deploys systems theory to create a wide range of additional value streams.

This an introductory talk about what the circular economy is, what asset management can do to enable the circular economy and how to think about value streams and the deployment of systems theory to create additional value from assets.

Carl Waring

Service Development Lead for the Circular Economy and Principal Consultant, Frazer Nash Consultancy

Carl Waring specializes in supporting clients that operate complex business environments that govern and manage asset infrastructure. He advises on Corporate Strategy for new products and services, he advises Government
Regulators on how to monitor, and report on asset management systems.

He is an advisor in dealing with complex multi stakeholder/actor settings in the Rail, Power and Defense sectors. This helps when trying to develop business strategies, how engineering systems create value beyond profit.

This capability sits well with the discipline of Asset Management and with investors in infrastructure where organizations are managing and operating complexities around the built environment. This also includes defining non
priced value creation.

In addition, the same capability is very effective when applied across other themes such as the Circular Economy. A proportion of Carl’s work focuses on advanced research and engaging with academic institutions driving technology readiness.
