Summary

Creating a meaningful Asset Management Strategy (also known as a Strategic Asset Management Plan or SAMP) is both a vital task and a challenge to establish clear direction, priorities, coordinated initiatives and consensus.  Where do you start?  How detailed do you need to be?  What ‘strategic’ horizons are suitable?  Who should be involved? How do you make it realistic and implementable?

The course provides practical insight into the development of effective strategies for Asset Management, including alignment with organizational objectives and engagement of the workforce, goal-setting, prioritization, risk management, performance monitoring and cross-disciplinary collaboration.  Taught by highly experienced asset management experts, this course includes plenty of real-world examples and interactive exercises.

Scope

The course introduces the concepts, role and benefits of a SAMP.  It shows how such a Strategy achieves the essential alignment between (top down) organizational objectives and stakeholder requirements, with the (bottom up) realities of assets and asset management capabilities.  Every SAMP is unique, due to the individual nature of each organization’s asset portfolio, operating context and expectations of its stakeholders.  This course explains how to develop and customize a SAMP to be organization-specific.  It also shows how this process can be used effectively to engage all disciplines and achieve consensus about goals, priorities and responsibilities for delivery.

Course content:

  • Strategic thinking in Asset Management
  • Policy, Strategy and Plans: what goes where?
  • Role of a SAMP within a Management System
  • Typical contents of a SAMP
  • The SAMP development process
  • Using and maintaining your SAMP
  • Communication, consensus and commitment
  • Course summary and assessment

IAM UK Chapter Conference/training course– COVID-19 guidance
We look forward to once again holding a face-to-face conference and bringing the asset management community together.
The health and safety of everybody attending or working the event are our top priority, so to make sure we’re as COVID-secure as we can be, we are putting in place many measures.
We ask that you work with us, the event venue and staff, and your fellow delegates to make a safe live event that is in line with UK Government guidance.

We ask that you follow the following guidance:
• Do not travel or attend if you are feeling unwell or have any symptoms of a cold or a virus.
• Do not travel or attend in breach of track and trace guidelines in force at the time of the event [link to guidelines].
• Registration is mandatory at the start of each day. We will supply a record of all attendees for track and trace purposes if required.
• We encourage the use of masks and hand sanitisers, but these remain optional in line with current guidelines. Should Government advice change to compulsory mask wearing, we will enforce this at the event.
• We encourage you to maintain as much social distance as possible, exercise caution in enclosed spaces, and respect other attendees doing so if they wish.

We will ask the venue to provide
• Sanitising stations and face masks around the IAM event areas
• Extra space so that attendees can move about freely, or sit further apart in sessions or meals, whilst reducing physical contact
• Well ventilated event areas
• Enhanced cleaning of communal facilities (elevator buttons, handrails, door handles etc).

Please note that the venue is a hotel and that not all areas are under the control of the IAM. There will be other members of the public in catering areas, hotel corridors, entrances and exits, bathrooms and other shared spaces. The hotel currently does not have any mandated rules about masks, hand sanitising or social distancing for their own guests.

Risk assessment: a COVID-19 risk assessment has been carried out by the hotel and is available by request. The IAM has carried out a risk assessment based on government guidance.

General IAM Covid Event Safety Policy
The IAM will take all measures available in conjunction with the venue to follow government guidelines at the time in respect of staff and delegate COVID safety.
• We recommend that all delegates wear masks when moving about the event – these can be removed when seated.
• We recommend that prior to attending, a lateral flow test is taken and/or individuals are double vaccinated.
• IAM Staff will wear masks on registration and any other applicable areas for the safety of staff and delegates.
• We recommend that all delegates socially distance and follow basic COVID safety measures where possible/applicable
