At our September IAM Munster Branch meeting we will have a presentation from Kieran Ruane and Dr Michal Otreba. This presentation:
- Outlines the development and delivery of a module entitled Infrastructure Asset Management which now forms part of the taught masters (MEng) programmes in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering and Construction Project Management at Munster Technical University (MTU).
- It will also focus on Digitisation in Construction Industry with an emphasis on Asset and Facility Management.
- Finally, the presentation will outline development of a module entitled: BIM for Facilities Management that introduces the fundamentals of Facilities Management.

Kieran Ruane
Kieran Ruane is a lecturer in the Department of Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering at Munster Technological University (MTU). He is a Chartered Engineer with 27 years’ experience in the design and delivery of award-winning civil and structural engineering works. Kieran is a former Director of RPS Consulting Engineers where he was responsible for civil design services and infrastructure asset management across a range of disciplines. Kieran was heavily involved in the delivery of inspections, assessments, routine maintenance activities and major interventions for the TII’s national bridge stock under their Eirspan asset management system. His experience in the design and delivery of modules extends to all programmes in the Department, with particular emphasis on bridge engineering, asset management, professional design and computational modelling. Kieran is President of the Civil Engineering Research Association of Ireland (2021-2022) and was Chairperson of the Institution of Structural Engineers (Republic of Ireland Region) in 2018-2019.
Dr Michal Orteba
Dr Michal Otreba is currently a Lecturer at Munster Technological University (former CIT) and Visiting Lecturer at University College Cork. He has previously worked with RPS Consulting Engineers as a BIM Co-ordinator from 2014 -2019. In 2014 he completed his PhD studies and was awarded a Doctorate of Philosophy in Engineering from UCC. His experience and experience is in IT in Architecture Engineering and Construction (AEC) and in Building Information Modelling with emphasis on its applications for Facility and Asset Management., Intelligent and Sustainable façade systems. Michal also specialises in and has extensive knowledge in existing commercial and prototypical state of the art facades.
