United Utilities are providing IAM members with the opportunity to visit our Davyhulme Wastewater Treatment (WwTW) site. It is United Utilities' largest WwTW, located in the Trafford area of Greater Manchester. This site serves a large proportion of Manchester and the surrounding area treating a population equivalent of approximately 860 thousand which equates to about 8,300 l/s at flow to full treatment. All biologically treated effluent is discharged to the Manchester Ship Canal.

The visit will include the site induction and overview, an overview of the management of current issues and risks on the site, and how we are considering the longer-term strategic issues.

The visit will take place during the working day and is limited to 15 attendees, so please check your ability to attend before booking.

Registration & Logistics

Registration is mandatory for this event and on a first come, first served basis. Please do not register unless you are able to attend. The location will be provided to registered attendees prior to the event. 

Please be aware that this is an operational site and there will be stairs to climb on the walk round.  PPE will be provided, this will include a hi-vis vest, hard hat, gloves and safety glasses – we ask that you please wear sturdy footwear.
