This webinar will explore findings from the November 2024 synthesis paper, "State Asset Management Initiatives for Public Water Systems", co-published by the IAM USA Chapter and the Asset Leadership Network.
The paper examines how U.S. states are implementing and evolving asset management practices to meet regulatory, technical, and financial challenges in the water sector, particularly in response to the 2018 America's Water Infrastructure Act (AWIA).
Attendees will gain a concise overview of national trends based on U.S. EPA reports from 2012, 2018, and 2024. These reports track asset management progress across all 50 states and Puerto Rico, highlighting regulatory updates, funding mechanisms, technical assistance, and internal capacity-building activities. The webinar will discuss the EPA’s Five-Core-Question Asset Management Framework and how it is being integrated into state programs, including the growing use of incentives, training, and triennial capacity development reporting.
The session will also spotlight the Palm Beach County Water Utilities Department’s ISO 55001 certification journey—an example of aligning asset management with international best practices. Key lessons will be shared for asset managers seeking to strengthen utility performance, build organizational capability, and deliver sustainable service outcomes.
