Volunteer Opportunity: Pathway to Excellence

Call for Volunteers: Pathway to Excellence in Asset Management Version 3

The Institute of Asset Management (IAM) is excited to announce an opportunity to contribute to the future of our profession. First published in 2015, the Pathway to Excellence in Asset Management (PtE) introduced the concept of asset management maturity, and explained how it can be defined, scaled, and recognised. The guidance was subsequently updated in 2022 to reflect the evolving nature of asset management and to offer strengthened guidance on maturity assessment.

The IAM Board has now agreed that the PtE should be updated once again to reflect recent developments in asset management, particularly following the launch of SAM2025, which was created in response to the publication of ISO 55001:2024, as well as updates to the GFMAM Asset Management Landscape V3 and the IAM Anatomy v4.

Who We Need:

We are seeking passionate professionals with hands-on experience applying the guidance in the IAM Pathway to Excellence in Asset Management. Ideally, candidates will have at least 10 years’ experience developing and implementing good asset management practices within organisations, along with a deep understanding of asset management capability maturity, particularly at the higher levels of optimisation and excellence.

What You'll Do:

  • Collaborate Regularly: Engage in regular meetings with a team of like-minded professionals.
  • Share your experiences: Contribute to a research phase exploring how organisations and individuals have used the PtE since its initial publication, how usage varies globally, and where any modifications or enhancements have been introduced.
  • Provide insight: Offer informed perspectives on developments in the asset management marketplace since the publication of PtE and how these may have influenced or impacted its application.

Project Duration:

The project is expected to run for approximately six months.

Why Volunteer:

  • Professional Growth: Expand your network, gain new skills, and add a significant project to your professional portfolio.
  • Help to influence the discipline: Play a meaningful role in shaping the future direction of the asset management discipline, and the Institute itself, through your contributions.

Who is Eligible:

Please note to take up this volunteer opportunity, you must be an IAM individual member or an employee of an organization that holds IAM membership. You should also have substantial experience in asset management maturity, particularly at the higher levels of optimization and excellence.

Please note that, due to the advanced maturity thinking required for this initiative, a selection process will apply, and not all applicants may be successful.
