The Institute of Asset Management (IAM) is delighted to launch Subject Specific Guideline (SSG) Outcomes & Impacts.

This guideline explores the evolution in asset management from a focus on outputs to delivering meaningful outcomes and impacts for organizations, stakeholders, and society. It explains how outcomes‑led thinking is embedded across the asset management discipline, connecting strategy, planning, operations, leadership, risk, data, and stakeholder engagement.

The guideline highlights the importance of understanding organizational context, clearly understanding stakeholder expectations, and measuring impacts across multiple time horizons. It emphasizes continuous improvement through the Plan, Do, Check, Act cycle and identifies leadership, culture, data quality, and transparent reporting as key enablers of success. It also explores how organizations are embracing multi-capital value frameworks encompassing a broadening range of outcomes such as environmental stewardship, community wellbeing, organizational resilience, and long-term sustainability.

Through practical case studies, the guideline demonstrates how outcomes‑driven asset management supports better decisions, manages risk, and delivers sustainable, long‑term value in an increasingly complex operating environment.
