These 3 mini-Webinar sessions will explore the benefits of Adaptive Systems Planning, an emerging capability which combines Systems Thinking principles and Rapid Scenario Analysis tools to enable new, agile, integrated and dynamic planning capabilities. Over the 3 sessions will explore and discuss:
- The Requirement: What are the contextual & technology drivers for change.
- Developing the Capability: What does an Adaptive Systems Planning capability look like?
- Applications & Benefits: Current case study, potential applications & associated benefits.
There are many routes to delivering the sustainable and resilient outcomes that asset owners wish to create, with many twists and turns along the way. How will we navigate the most optimal path to create those outcomes? Is it even possible to accurately foresee that path or am I going to zig-zag my way there in 5-year chunks? Has the delimited Asset Management Plan, the product of a repeating 5 yearly Price Review process, finally run it’s course?
BMA are leaders in complex systems modelling and scenario analysis. In an increasingly uncertain world, the expectation that even short-term asset plans can be delivered without any course correction is simply unrealistic. Increasing complexity, ambiguity and volatility add to the challenges and constraints planners now face, in what is often now referred to as a VUCA future. Accepting this reality demands new, more dynamic planning capabilities.
Session 1: The level of uncertainty asset management planners now face is unprecedented. The benefits of employing a more systemic approach when dealing with rapidly changing business context are well established, as is the use of Scenario Planning when considering longer term challenges.
However, such techniques are often constrained to qualitative assessments, requiring expert elicitation and subject matter expertise. As such, they tend to be one-off exercises, generally linked to strategy development or consultancy. This session will explore the drivers and rationale for Adaptive Systems Planning.
