Join the IAM Great Lakes Branch for our December 2023 Virtual Meeting for discussion, presentations and branch updates.
Agenda:
1. General Announcements
a. "An Independent Risk Analysis: Policy, Risks and Science of the Straits of Mackinac" presented by Guy A. Meadows, PhD., Great Lakes Research Center, Michigan Technological University. Q & A Discussion to follow and segue into related SSG discussion.
2. SSG Discussion:
We will have a discussion correlating the IAM Subject Specific Guidelines (SSGs) 1,2 & 5: Asset Management Policy, Strategy & Plans, and SSG 31: Risk Assessment & Management. Some excerpts from the SSGs will be sent to attending members for discussion questions and collaboration.
3. Next meeting: Annual General Meeting and 2nd Nationwide Branch Meeting. More Details to come – this will be a hybrid in-person location for your Branch. The first 1.5 hours will be everyone together and the last 30 minutes for those in-person only.
4. Request for Great Lakes Branch Presentations in 2024

This presentation will be one not to miss! Guy will be presenting from a classroom with student attendees from Michigan Technological University. This will still be a virtual meeting for remaining members that attend, but please do not hesitate to offer your organization as a host site in large population centers for some in-person collaboration and networking!

Guy Meadows
Guy Meadows served as Professor of Physical Oceanography for 35 years at the University of Michigan within the departments of Atmospheric, Oceanic and Space Sciences and Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering.
During his tenure, he served the College and University as Director of the Ocean Engineering Laboratory, Director of the Cooperative Institute for Limnology and Ecosystems Research (NOAA, Joint Institute), Director of the Marine Hydrodynamics Laboratories and founding Academic Director of the M-STEM Academy.
Since 2012 and as founding director, Guy helped to establish the new Great Lakes Research Center at Michigan Technological University.
He holds two degrees in mechanical engineering, a Ph.D. in applied ocean physics and is a sea-going, full-scale experimentalist. His primary goal is to blend scientific understanding and technological advancements into environmentally sound engineering solutions for the marine environment.
