Bellevue’s Wastewater Force Main Condition Assessment Program

Topic/ Summary: Angela and Bob will provide an overview of the challenges with Bellevue Utilities wastewater force mains, introduce different methods and technologies for condition assessment in pressurized pipes and how Bellevue selected and utilized the different technologies.

Bellevue Utilities is in the process of developing a strategy for asset management of the sewer force mains in our system. Bellevue’s sewer system has approximately 5.7 miles of sewer force mains ranging in age from recently replaced to 69 years old. There has not been any previous physical or visual inspection or condition assessment performed on these force mains. The Force Main Condition Assessment Project was developed to determine the condition of the force mains by reviewing existing infrastructure data and performing physical assessment of different reaches of the force mains. The condition assessment information feeds into the prioritization of the force mains and the recommendations for future monitoring or renewal and replacement of the force mains.
